Capsule history of our Chapter.  Mildred Moyer Baynard and Frances Coryell Harris, Delta Gammas from University of Nebraska, Kappa, moved to Florida in 1946 as newly graduated teachers.  They attended their first Panhellenic meeting in St. Petersburg and were hoping to find some other Delta Gammas and to make some new friends.  They did make new friends, but they were mortified and upset that no one recognized their Delta Gamma pins since they were so well known in the North.  People thought they had some connection with the Navy.  They felt that surely there were more Delta Gammas in St. Petersburg since this was a tourist haven.  They put a notice in the newspaper, inviting Delta Gammas to a meeting at Frances’ house, and 12 alumnae appeared (six were 50-year members and one was from 20 miles away).  They organized into the Florida West Coast Alumnae Association in 1948 and became a Chapter in 1949.

So our Chapter has been thriving for over 50 years.  We have members of all ages, from all over the U.S., with a wide variety of interests, which makes for a diverse group with a common bond.
